Brown Dress Remix #2

You all know how much I LOVE my little brown a-line dress that I got at JCPenney over a year ago. I am always up for reinventing one of my favorite little dresses like I did HERE and HERE and most recently HERE.

Well today is no exception. I knew the temps would be chilly in the morning but warming up a little bit and then getting chilly again when it was time for me to drive home- so I wanted to wear something that could handle all of the changes in the temps outside- plus I wanted to wear a look that definitely mixed in with the colors of the season and the holiday that is upon us tomorrow.

Because I'm a redhead, I often think I can not pull off orange or rust colors on top- so I'm still not sure how this looks on me, but I am loving the color combination and this belt that I got over the weekend for a steal. I also considered wearing my dark orange tights, but I thought that would be a bit too much orange for one day (especially at the office!)

Like it or love it? Does this color work for me? Would love your thoughts!

Casual Monday

Since it's a short holiday week (YAY!) and I had a photo session straight after work- I decided to go a bit casual for work today. Honestly, I was having a typical MOnday where I didn't want to get out of my warm, cozy bed so getting dressed cute wasn't high on my list of priorities! Oh- and the weather- well, it was chilly in the morning and was predicted to get warm in the afternoon- which makes it sort of a pain in the butt to get dressed in the morning!

Anyway- I threw this together as I knew I wanted to be comfortable today. NOthing special, just a typical Monday lazy casual outfit. I do love these ballet flats though- I think they are my favorites! (gee, I wonder why....)

Saturday Night Out

Last night the honey & I headed out to uptown New Orleans for a joint birthday party for two of our friends. The weather was chilly, but not too chilly- so I figured it was perfect for a dress and some tights!
I figured I would include a picture of the two of us...
since you may be curious what my other (better?) half looks like!

Coincidentally, I had taken a "break" to go to themall late in the afternoon as I had a Friends & Family coupon for NY&CO that I could use. I came across this ADORABLE little dress that was 70% off and then I got another 30% off that price. Talk about a GREAT DEAL! I got the dress and the belt for under $20!

Anyway, I laid this dress, my tights, and boots out along with a brown sweater dress, teal tights, and a teal tee to go under the sweater dress- and let my husband pick out my outfit. This is what we went with.

I have to say, I got quite a few compliments for my outfit... which certainly made me feel nice! Tell me what you think about this outfit- are the orange tights too much? Which, in the picture they are far brighter orange than they actually are- they were more of a rust color.

A Twist of Animal Print

The weather today was predicted to start off chilly, but warm up to about 68. Upon hearing that news, I decided today would be a layering type of day. As I type this and it is my lunch hour, I am now wearing just my short sleeve mock neck and trousers and have lost the sweater as it is about 70 degrees outside- but as soon as it is time for me to drive home, I'm sure that it will be chilly again and the cardigan will be a necessity.

I love to wear red for many reasons. One of those reasons is that it is the color of my sorority. Last night I had dinner with my sisters and had a great time and I figured today would be a great day to pay homage to the organization that I am still a very big part of.

Devil in a Blue Dress

Ok, just kidding. But I wanted to add a little pop of color to this outfit. I *think* I did ok pairing red with the navy blue dress I wrote about yesterday. I figure red is a perfect way to pep up this dress and let out some of the fun, devilish side of me. ;)

I honestly wasn't sure if this look would work together- but now, seeing it all together in a picture, I think it looks ok! I LOVE this dress. It's comfortable and I love the silhouette of the dress and the fact that it has pockets! How fun.

Another fun fact about this outfit- in total, it costs less than $30. I got the dress on clearance for $7, the tights were $5.35, the necklace was $4.99 because I used a coupon to buy it, the red cami was on clearance for $4.99 and the shoes were on clearance for $6.99 last spring. (oh, and my silver hoops were less than $.99 because I got a multipack of them for $3.99.) You really can't beat a bargain like that!

The question still stands- what color tights/shoes would you pair with this dress? I'm curious what others would pair with it. I have ideas for green, mustard, orange, grey, and pink!

Tuesday in Teal

It has finally gotten chilly enough outside here in SELA so that I could wear tights! I love that colored and patterned tights are making a comeback because there is nothing I love to wear in the fall and winter months more than a cute pair of tights. I think tights are a great way to add a pop of color to an outfit or lengthen your legs to make them look super.

I also forgot to take a picture of myself yesterday. I got up with intent to go to work- I wasn't feeling so hot because I spent 75% of the night up coughing, but I knew that I had an appointment with my eye doctor (follow up to my PRK) and I figured I'd just go into work and tough it out. I was rocking out a really cute pair of leopard print ballet flats, some dark wash bootcut jeans, and my red vneck short sleeve sweater along with my leopard print scarf. But as I sat in the waiting room of the eye dr's office- I felt worse & worse and couldn't stop coughing- and I called and made an appt. with my internist for later on in the morning- and I decided to take the day off. So I went to the doctor, find out that I have BRONCHITIS- and go home and take off my cute outfit and put on the greatest outfit of all- yoga pants, a tshirt, and socks. After a light lunch- I crashed- and hard after taking my cough medicine and antibiodic. So yeah, taking a picture of my outfit was least of my concern! LOL

Aannnyway.... this morning I knew I had to come into work as to not lose those precious personal leave days AND to get caught up on work- and I wanted to look cute and nice so that I can con myself into "feeling better." I originally had the blue dress that I mentioned in the previous post on to wear to work today-but when I put it on with camel tights and camel heels, I felt like the outfit was drab and did nothing for me- except make my legs look washed out and BORING!

I am thinking I have a plan in mind for tomorrow's outfit (which includes said blue dress)- but first, I must get myself to a store to get some tights so that I can pull the outfit together. But in the meantime- this is what I came up with today. My old standby jersey dress and a sweater over it- my reinvention of one of my favorite wardrobe staples.

Brown Jersey A-Line Dress- Blu Sage at JCP (yes, this is the same dress I've worn in the past!)
Teal Cowl Neck Sweater- ANA at JCP
Leopard Print Belt- Worthington at JCP

*I also wore a brown cordoroy blazer to wear as outerwear- no picture of that.

What Would You Wear?

I recently got a great buy- a dark navy matte jersey dress that has a GREAT silhouette. It is solid navy and has nice long sleeves- so it is perfect to wear this time of the year.

Problem for me is that for some reason, I am at a LOSS for what color shoes and/or tights to wear with it- other than navy.

I was going to wear this dress today with camel tights and a pair of camel pointy toe heels, but I just felt like it washed out my legs and make them look long and pale and BORING!

So I ask you fellow bloggers and fashionistas - what colors would you wear with a plain navy dress?

I am thinking kelly green, hot pink, light pink, and grey. Any other ideas? And say I get a pair of kelly green shoes- what color tights? Give me options!

Friday Fun Casual

Scott & I may plans to go out to dinner tonight to celebrate our anniversary (belated, as we haven't had a chance to go) so I decided to dress well enough for work to be able to head straight downtown for dinner and a stroll around town afterward. I am very happy with this outfit- as my jacket was a great find- I got it at Plato's Closet for $7! I couldn't pass up that deal on this jacket which is a great pop of color for months when a huge part of my wardrobe is black, grey and brown.

I also bought this scarf a couple of weeks ago at Old Navy- as soon as I saw it, I had to have it. I just love all of the colors in it and I figured it could go with so many different outfits!

Favorite Trousers

For the longest time I had a preference to trousers that were bootcut- and then, in recent months, I've become a huge fan of the wide legged trouser. I think I adore wider leg trousers for several reasons- but the biggest being that I think they present a more polished look and they are GREAT for camouflaging bigger thighs and hips (which I have both!)

I got these at JC Penney one day on a whim when looking to replace a pair that had been worn so much they were starting to pill in some interesting areas (they were 3 years old)

These fit the bill. I'm pleased with them and I hadn't worn them yet since it has been pretty warm lately and clearly I've been a HUGE fan of my trouser jeans. I figured it was time for me to start moving in the direction of dressier pants at least once or twice a week!

Preppy Wednesday

I always love a good argyle sweater. Something about the look of argyle is so classic to me. It can go casual or professional and can be layered in many different ways. Since the weather is chilly in the mornings and warm in the afternoons- I've been wearing pants to work quite a bit these days.

I decided to pair hot pink with the brown combo just to give a pop of color- and of course, what better way to finish off that classic preppy look than with my string of pearls?

Tuesday

After being away for a long weekend in Philadelphia- waking up this morning to come to work was certainly not something that came easy to me. Although I went to bed at 7:45 last night- I was STILL exhausted upon waking up this morning.

I grabbed the first thing I saw in my closet that looked acceptable. I usually don't tuck in my blouses, but in the case of this shirt (which I had to buy a little bit bigger to prevent gaping at the boobs) it looked better tucked in.

So I have a very classic look today- button up shirt, blazer, ballet flats and trouser jeans. BO-RING but dependable.

Winning Combination: Blue & Brown

One of my favorites, the combination of blue & brown together is always a fun way to shake up the wardrobe. Brown is definitely one of my favorite neutrals and today I wore it in two different shades as part of my outfit.

I think the outfit works well- originally, I was sort of iffy about this shade of blue with the brown- but I think it works! What do you think?

Monochromatic

Let's just say that last night was a really late night. I actually didn't get home until around 12:45-1 AM this morning and I had a heck of a time getting up this morning and getting ready for work. Let's just say being overtired and having a scratchy throat as a result of too much yelling the night before made it very difficult for me to be interested in getting dressed and going to work!

I just grabbed the first thing in my closet that didn't need ironing and threw it on and then figured if I put on a big statement necklace it would make me look better. I don't know if it worked or not. I didn't even bother to put on makeup! LOL

Black & Gold Game Day

In case you didn't know and you're not a football fan- tonight is Monday Night Football- Saints vs. Falcons. Fun Fact- My husband & I are season ticket holders for the New Orleans Saints and we got to every home game (well, I won't be there next weekend, as I'm going out of town to visit some girlfriends) but other than that, I go to every game.

With it being Game Day, I knew I had to wear an outfit that was both appropriate for work and for when I headed out to the game later in the day.

I didn't wear the hat as part of my outfit- I just wanted you to see the scarf detail!
